friday

ideas, obsessions & explorations

August 05, 2016

Let me tell you a bit about what's happening with life lately over here, how a friend and I ended up commissioning our portraits to a group of girls, things and projects about art and design I've found and cool random findings about travel and culture.

There we go!

TWO FOR FRIDAY: A PATTERN / A SONG

March 27, 2015

Pattern of the week: 9000
A pattern: 9000 by 9000 via REVISTA EXCLAMA.

A song: Slow motion by Phox.
___

___

Since this is the time where I share some notes about my life, let me tell you I am about to graduate from my postgraduate program! Three weeks more to go and it's over. Looking back it's crazy to think of all the things that had to happen in order for me to be here. Now apparently it's job hunting season and everybody is sharpening their swords because this is going to be intense. Mind your heads!

While this happens this morning I noticed there are more birds flying and chirping around, which makes me ridiculously happy since it means summer and the promise of warmer days is just around the corner. It's almost april and we still have some days at -12!...  If weather was a person he would totally be laughing at us!

TWO FOR FRIDAY: A BOOK / A SONG

February 20, 2015

A book. No one belongs here more than you. Stories by MIRANDA JULY

A song: Pinos, by Masa (Didi Gutman from Brazilian Girls and Héctor Castillo)

_____

So... these past few days I have been obsessed with Miranda July. I introduced S. to her movies and her work in general and this last weekend while we were strolling in Toronto I saw this book and trust me, it is the next one I want to buy. Apparently it is a compilation of short stories, but with July the most important thing is the way she tells those stories and how they revolve around the ordinary things. For those who are not familiar with her, she is an american filmmaker, actress, artist and has been named one of the most influential independent voices of these recent years. If you are curious about her work you can watch her first movie “Me and you and everyone we know“ which was awarded at Sundance and Cannes Film Festival.

About this song... I am a huge fan of the band Brazilian Girls. A few years ago I was lucky to run into Didi Gutman who plays at this band so I was really happy to find this video of Didi and multi awarded producer Héctor Castillo with this project called Masa. I think the sound is pretty cool and can make you dance while you get ready to start the day!

TWO FOR FRIDAY: AN IMAGE / A SONG

January 30, 2015

An image: La boum, by  YELENA BRYKSENKOVA

A song: Jogalong by ROZI PLAIN

This weekend is the last of january already!... I don't know about you but it seemed like this month was way too long!... Or maybe it is because my head has been all over the place for the past couple of months and finally I am letting go some ideas and thoughts that were becoming a bit to heavy to carry.

Has this happened to you?... that you think and think about something and you can't seem to find an easy solution and then out of the blue on a random day you just decide you don't care about that anymore and from one second to the other life is bright and shiny again?

Anyway... one of the purposes I really want to achieve with the blog during this year is to be more honest and share more of what's on my mind. So there you go. Baby steps here, but we've got to start somewhere, right?

This song here is amazing. Seriously! Make sure you listen more about Rozi Plain on the link above. I found her through a friend on facebook (that oddly enough is friends with her!) and I think it is a mix of Vampire Weekend with Cate Le Bon. haha.. but that is just me.

A PATTERN / A SONG

December 05, 2014

A pattern. VÍA

A song. Nuit 17 à 52, Christine and the Queens.
_____

___

I am back from my trip to Mexico, which was a trip that got me exhausted in many ways. It is strange to visit a place that used to be yours and now see it like a visitor.

On the other hand the concerts were a dream and left me with a whole bunch of great memories as well as ideas in my head. As always I still believe traveling changes you and definitely this trip has been one of the most intense in a while because it was also a way to find many truths, fears, doubts and longings with myself.

However... this also made me think about my next trip. Dates are yet to be confirmed but destination is clear: Iceland. 2015 looks like it's going to be a great year!

A pattern: In progress by NATALIA TYULKINA

A song: She moves, Alle Farben feat. Graham Candy

_____

Guess who is traveling to Mexico right now and being such a nerd working on a presentation from the airport at 4 am?! #nerdalert

Guilty.

Oh, and yes, this is my best angle. From here you can't see the big dark circles around my hard-working-nerdy eyes. Yikes!
